Water supply & shutoff

The supply line brings fresh water into your home. The meter tracks use; the main shutoff controls the incoming supply.

  1. Incoming supply. Fresh water enters through the service line. The meter records how much passes through.
  2. Main shutoff. A valve controls the incoming supply. The model shows its position in the water path, not its location in your house.
  3. Fixture branches. Smaller pipes distribute cold water to fixtures and to the water heater.

Toilet

The tank holds clean water for the next flush. The bowl connects to the drain and has a built-in water trap.

  1. Tank fills. The supply and fill valve replenish the tank after a flush. The tank and bowl have different jobs.
  2. Flush releases water. Opening the flush valve releases stored water into the bowl to carry waste into the drain.
  3. Bowl trap. The built-in curved passage retains a water seal between the room and the drainage system.

Shower & bathroom sink

Separate hot and cold lines bring water to the fixtures. A mixing valve blends them; used water leaves through the drain.

  1. Separate supplies. Hot and cold water arrive through separate pipes.
  2. Mixing valve. The valve combines the two supplies before water reaches the showerhead. The purple route represents mixed water.
  3. Shower drain. Used water enters a trapped drain. The supply pipes and wastewater path remain separate.

Laundry connections

Supply hoses fill the washing machine. A separate drain hose carries used water into the home’s drainage system.

  1. Supply connections. Separate hoses connect the washer to the water supplies. Some wash cycles use only cold water.
  2. Inside the washer. The machine uses the incoming water during the wash and rinse cycle. This model simplifies the drum and its connections.
  3. Wastewater outlet. The drain hose sends used water into a standpipe and trapped drain, then into the home drainage system.
